A DIY fanatic has revealed she was fed up with her boring new house so she took advantage of bargain supermarket purchases to give it a mega makeover.

To keep costs down, the clever woman explained that she used cheap cladding kits from Wickes, saving her hundreds of pounds on her DIY cladding wall.

To show off her dining room’s impressive transformation, Sarah Hardy took to social media and posted a before and after look at her dining room.

Alongside the snaps on DIY On A Budget, a private Facebook group with 2.2 million members, Sarah wrote: “I posted a while ago asking for advice on dressing up my dining room and everyone was very helpful and gave me one “We gave some sound advice that helped us achieve this goal.”

Sarah Hardy then told Fabulous all about her DIY project, which cost her just £143 in total.

She explained: “We have been living in our new building for almost three years and the builders had painted every room grey.

“I was tired of the gray everywhere and wanted a change, BUT we are planning on moving there next We have a few years left and want to save some money for our new house, so I had to stay on budget.

“We planned to do everything ourselves, so we researched ideas for DIY on a budget.”

So Sarah stocked up on handbag-friendly finds, adding: “We used three Cheshire Molded fairing kits.

“With caulk, filler and nothing more Nails This cost us £96 at Wickes.

“We painted the cladding with Limerick Tough and Durable Emulsion and the wall above with Brilliant White Tough and Durable Emulsion, both from GoodHome at B&Q.

“We prepped the cladding with GoodHome’s multi-surface wood primer. The paint cost us £47.

She said: “We used a wall panel kit and simply changed the dimensions to suit our space.

“Having done this I’m confident we can just buy the dado next time and do it even cheaper, even though this conversion only cost us £143.

“We used a laser level to align the rails. I had drawn the lines with a spirit level and later checked with the laser level and found that my pencil markings were NOT level.

“If you don’t have a laser level, it’s worth it invest in one for projects like this.

“We used No More Nails to glue the rails, but found that some of the rails were not straight (wood was bent) and the ends were falling off. We had to nail these parts down and cover them with wood filler.”
