New electric cars in 2025: The Ford plant

Ford will launch the Puma Gen-E in 2025.

(Ford)Ford will launch the Puma Gen-E in 2025.

The car manufacturer Ford posted billions in losses with its electrical division this year. This was not without consequences. Plans for an electric SUV with three rows of seats were initially canceled. In 2025 there will still be several purely electric models, especially the Puma Gen-E.

Ford made a decision early on: in 2021, the company announced that from 2030 only electric cars would be sold in Europe. After billions in losses in the electrical division – around 5.2 billion euros in 2024 alone – the timing is shaky. The US manufacturer initially suspended the construction of a large electric SUV with three rows of seats, originally planned for 2025. Ford is also responding to the temporarily weak demand for fully electric cars without fundamentally saying goodbye to electrification.

This can be seen from the new releases for 2025: deliveries for the electric Ford Puma begin at the beginning of the year. Another classic is expected at the beginning of the new year: the Capri as an electric crossover. Also in the starting blocks later this year is the Ford Ranger as a plug-in hybrid. According to motor1.com, there is speculation about another model that uses the company’s new multi-energy platform and could potentially replace the Ford Focus. However, there are no details about this yet.

With the retro charm of Puma and Capri in a new era

The Puma Gen-E is a kind of harbinger for 2025. The cute crossover with electric drive could be ordered in the last weeks of 2024 and will then roll out to customers at the beginning of 2025. The small car SUV scores with its pleasing design and well-thought-out spatial layout, but is rather reserved when it comes to sportiness. A range of up to 376 kilometers and a charging of the 43 kWh battery from ten to 80 percent within 23 minutes are stated. That’s acceptable, but not a reason to buy, which probably also applies to the top speed of 160 km/h and the acceleration to 100 km/h in eight seconds. The price of the Puma Gen-E starts at 36,900 euros.

For the electric Capri, customers have to dig a little deeper into their pockets, because the basic model only starts at 44,950 euros. But there is more under the hood. Ford itself speaks of “advanced technology, iconic design and incredible range”. However, this particularly applies to the extended-range version, which can travel up to 627 kilometers on a single charge and can sprint to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. However, you have to expect a price of more than 50,000 euros.

Successful pick-up comes as a plug-in hybrid

For pick-up fans, the Ford Ranger as a plug-in hybrid could well be the dream car of 2025. Nobody in Europe can beat the diesel of this powerhouse, and Ford is adding it again with the PHEV version. The system performance is estimated at 279 hp – with a maximum torque of 690 Nm. The hybrid Ranger is not expected before the summer of 2025; prices here are likely to start at more than 50,000 euros and, with top equipment, end at just under 70,000 euros.
