The immigration authorities in Bad Homburg are suspected of having issued illegal residence permits. An independent law firm is now examining several questionable cases.

Investigations were initiated after suspected irregularities at the immigration authorities in Bad Homburg. “It is understood that the district administrator has evidence that there may have been irregularities in the business of the immigration authority,” said the press spokesman for the Hochtaunuskreis. “These are currently being sorted at the request of the district administrator and checked with the assistance of an independent law firm that specializes in compliance.”

The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported on several cases in which there were said to be irregularities in the issuing of documents to foreigners. Accordingly, 30 cases are said to be legally dubious. According to information from the newspaper, criminals, including a murderer, are also said to have received a residence permit.

According to the district, the inspections are still pending completion. Administrative and other measures that need to be taken on the basis of any findings will be “immediately taken and the necessary internal disciplinary steps taken,” it said.
