Romania’s Nuclearelectrica is investing EUR 19 million in maintenance work at the Cernavoda nuclear power plant

Romanian state energy company Nuclearelectrica (BVB: SNN) has allocated RON 94.67 million (EUR 19 million), excluding VAT, for the maintenance of mechanical equipment and ventilation systems at the Cernavodă nuclear power plant. The services aim to ensure the safe nuclear operation of the power plant over a period of four years, according to a tender notice published on the Electronic Public Procurement System (SEAP).

The contract, to be awarded through an open tender, will be selected based on a quality-price ratio criterion. Interested bidders must demonstrate a minimum average global turnover of RON 15 million (€3 million) over the last three years, Economedia.ro reported.

The deadline for submitting bids or requests to participate is January 15, 2025, 3:00 p.m

The Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant plays a crucial role in Romania’s energy sector, providing around 20% of the country’s electricity. Its two operating units, each with 700 MW of power, use CANDU 6 technology, which uses natural uranium and heavy water as fuel and coolant, respectively.

Nuclearelectrica also oversees the Piteşti nuclear fuel power plant and owns EnergoNuclear, a project company focused on expanding Romania’s nuclear capacity.

The maintenance work underlines the company’s commitment to maintaining strict safety standards while meeting the country’s energy needs.
