‘Virat makes a mistake and tries to justify looking back’: Ex-player blames Kohli for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s exit

Virat Kohli’s misjudgment led to Yashasvi Jaiswal being run out in India’s first innings of the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar blamed Kohli for the major setback as he did not respond to the batsman’s call. Jaiswal played a shot towards midfield and ran to score a single but the non-striker surprisingly started looking at the ball and the fielder.

The southpaw reached the other end and Kohli was deep in the crease. Despite a poor throw from Pat Cummins, Alex Carey was able to remove the bails, meaning the young batsman had no chance of returning.

Manjrekar was surprised at how Virat reacted to the whole situation. “Virat made a mistake and then tried to justify himself by looking back. Yashasvi is angry. It was his call and Kohli should have answered.

“The moment Yashasvi called for running. Virat showed no interest and started looking away. This is not the right way as Jaiswal would have been in danger due to his decision. I don’t know why Virat turned his back after listening to Jaiswal. Apparently he wasn’t interested in a single and wanted to strike in the next round. Both batters were keen to get the first ball of the next over,” he said on Star Sports.

Yashasvi scored 82 runs off 118 balls, including 11 fours and 1 six. Virat didn’t last long and was dismissed after scoring 36 runs off 86 balls.
