Everton’s valuation could now rise to a staggering £1.8bn

Everton’s valuation could now rise to a staggering £1.8bn

Former Everton boss Keith Wyness has backed the club’s valuation at “double or triple” after the Friedkin Group (TFG) “traded” the £600m takeover.

Speaking of a new edition of Football InsiderSpeaking on the Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy that advises elite clubs – warned TFG of the potential for relegation in the 2024-25 season.

TFG completed the acquisition last week after initially agreeing to buy Farhad Moshiri’s majority stake in September.

Everton had debts of £600 million, but these debts have been cleared by US investors who want to put the club on a secure financial footing.

The Toffees will move into a state-of-the-art 52,888-seat stadium next year after years of costly construction work at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Wyness claimed the stadium would cost “£1.2 billion” if built from scratch today due to high inflation in recent years.

Everton’s valuation could ‘double or triple’ after TFG’s ‘bargain’, says Wyness

He told Football InsiderInsider Track Podcast: “The £600 million takeover fee is, in some respects, a bargain.

“If Everton made a mistake and got relegated it wouldn’t be a bargain.

“Everton have now taken control of the stadium and if they were to build it from scratch today it would cost £1.2 billion.

“The cost of the deal is around £600 million for Friedkin Group.

“To have an asset of this quality and a Premier League team – that’s a bargain.

“The club’s valuation could easily double or triple.

“If they do well with it, there’s a chance it could be a bargain. But this season the cloud of relegation still hangs over us.”
