How many people saw Gavin and Stacey? The Christmas special attracts breathtaking numbers

The Gavin and Stacey The special drew its largest audience in more than a decade on Christmas Day.

As Overnights.TV reports, an incredible 12.3 million people tuned in for the long-awaited final episode of the series.

The series returned to BBC One for a 90-minute standalone episode on December 25, five years after the last Christmas special ended on a cliffhanger when Nessa (Ruth Jones) proposed to Smithy (James Corden).

This 2019 special was the highest-rated show of the year, attracting 11.6 million viewers, which eventually grew to a consolidated number of 18 million.

This year’s special, titled “The Finale,” is expected to surpass that result once the catch-up numbers are taken into account.

Even after five years of waiting, fans weren’t disappointed with the episode, with some praising it as a “perfect” conclusion to the series that began in 2007.

The special contained a major twist that writers Jones and Corden went to great lengths to keep secret during production.

Although loved by fans, the episode fared less well The IndependentCritic Charlotte O’Sullivan gave it three stars.

In her review, O’Sullivan wrote: “This Christmas special is about half an hour too long and the script uses the least interesting elements of what came before, but it still makes for a nice holiday film.”

She also lamented the lack of “spice” in the episode. “As fans of the series will know, Gavin’s parents livened up their love life by dressing up as Charles and Camilla (Mick liked to wear strap-on ears). Maybe the Special is more risk-averse for obvious reasons,” O’Sullivan said.

The new Wallace and Gromit film also attracted a large audience, with more than 9 million people tuning in to see the duo’s latest adventure.

In a four star rating from Revenge on the most fowlFilm critic Clarisse Loughrey wrote: “Revenge on the most fowl sees Aardman return to its tried and tested formula.

“But it’s also the source of the studio’s enduring brilliance – somehow the familiar always feels new and the craft never tires.

“If their new contribution preaches that we can embrace technology without becoming dependent on it, then Aardman is walking the talk.”
