Brownsville Crimes: Suspect wanted in fatal knife attack on workers at hotel-turned-homeless-shelter in Brooklyn, NYC

BROWNSVILLE, Brooklyn (WABC) — Police are continuing their search for the suspect wanted in the fatal stabbing of a worker at a Brooklyn homeless shelter.

The knife attack occurred around 6:15 p.m. Thursday in the lobby of the Days Inn by Wyndham Brooklyn on East New York Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found the 35-year-old employee with stab wounds to the neck and stomach. First responders transported the victim to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect managed to flee the crime scene on foot. He is described as being 1.85 meters tall and weighing around 100 kilograms. He was last seen wearing all black, a ski mask and a baseball cap.

The shelter has been operating at the Days Inn Hotel since the pandemic. The victim worked for a nonprofit organization contracted by the New York City Department of Homeless Services to operate the shelter.

According to the city’s DHS, the fatal stabbing was “an absolutely horrific tragedy. City nonprofits’ frontline employees work every day to help vulnerable New Yorkers.”

Residents of the property told police officers that the victim, who lived in the neighborhood, was hard-working and helpful.

The motive for the stabbing remains unclear as no one heard the argument.

The NYPD continues to search the area for clues and search for surveillance video that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.
