As the Juan Soto Sweepstakes begins, the New York Yankees have tremendous competition from around the league.

Meanwhile, it looks like New York will have to face its biggest rival, the Boston Red Sox, to start the offseason.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Red Sox are expected to make a big play in the Soto sweepstakes in hopes of stealing the 26-year-old star from the Bronx.

“Another team that has Soto at the top of his wish list: the Boston Red Sox. “They also have a meeting scheduled with Soto this week, and like the Blue Jays, their aggressiveness extends to the starting pitching market,” Passan wrote.

Passan also reported that the Blue Jays are first in line to meet with Soto and super agent Scott Boras. The Yankees and New York Mets also face Soto this week.

The Red Sox finished the season with an even record of 81-81 and attempted to make the playoffs late in the season, but ultimately failed.

Adding Soto to a lineup that already features All-Stars Rafael Devers and Jarren Duran would be a tough gauntlet for the Yankees.

According to Spotrac, the Red Sox have around $101 million to spend this offseason, meaning they could accommodate Soto’s needs and even add more to the roster if needed.

The Soto sweepstakes is heating up, and the Red Sox appear to be just the right fit to steal the Yankees star.
